The Root of Our Mission
OMWI began with a profound respect for the traditional spirit of Ọmụgwọ, the sacred period of postpartum care and communal support that has sustained mothers for generations.
We recognized that while this tradition is built on deep love and nourishment, the modern world requires an expanded standard of care so every woman can navigate her health journey with safety and dignity.
The Need for Evolution
OMWI was founded after seeing a critical gap in the Nigerian women's healthcare landscape: a lack of health equity and reproductive dignity, alongside poor maternal healthcare conditions and high maternal mortality rates.
We realized that for a woman to truly thrive, she needs more than survival; she needs informed support, accessible education, and a framework that extends beyond clinic walls.
Health for All Women, Without Borders
As our vision expanded, so did our understanding that reproductive dignity does not begin at birth or end after the postpartum period.
- The beginning: navigating menstrual health and literacy.
- The transition: supporting safe prenatal, postnatal, and newborn care.
- The wisdom stage: guiding menopausal wellness with dignity.
- The constant: prioritizing mental health and wellness as a foundation for all care.
Our Future
OMWI is building a movement to make women's health equity and reproductive dignity a global standard.
By dismantling geographic and socioeconomic barriers, we are fostering a world where every woman is empowered with the knowledge to lead her own health journey with confidence.
